Louis "Doc" Larsen was a beloved veterinarian to the local equestrian community, trail-builder, and stand-up advocate for public/recreational land access. The Doc Larsen Trail remains in his honor, but it was originally built with his sweat and dedication. It was one of the first trails restored after the 2009 Station Fire.

Starting below the USFS sign at Larsen Flat, the Doc Larsen Trail cruises along the side of the canyon before dropping steeply into its bottom. In a shady glen after about half a mile, you'll find a horse trough and see the north spur of Doc Larsen to the right. This connector leads steeply up to Ebey Herreres Truck Trail just below its junction with Forest Route #3N30. Keep straight (west) to stay on the main trail.

As it proceeds out the bottom of Oliver Canyon, the Doc Larsen Trail crosses the stream several times before depositing you onto the northern low point of BP&L Road.

Ebey Canyon and Oliver Canyon form a big figure-8 network of fire roads that ring the canyons and meet at Larsen Flat. Each canyon also features singletrack trails that generally criss-cross the canyons, so many combinations of fire road climbs and singletrack descents can be strung together depending on how long you want your ride to be.
