Overview
The featured ride uses small paved roads for uphill. A doubletrack brings you to the top.
For downhill the old trail to the alm hut "planina Stador", now divided by the paved road into 4 sections, is re-connected by this ride. There are flowy, but also some rocky parts, on your way down to the valley of river Soca.
Sometimes you should keep your eyes open to find the right way.
Need to Know
If the weather is fine and there is not to much wind: after 9:00 there could be some traffic at the small paved road. Vans and cars are bringing up the paragliders.
Description
The round-course starts 3 km south of the city of Tolmin, near Poljubinj.
Take the small road upward to Ljubinj, passing the church of this village (on your right). 200m later, take the small paved road to Stador Planika. The warm-up is finished at the end of the paved road, now you have climbed about 750 meters.
Turn right, take
Kobala Doubletrack to reach the top at elev. 1.081 m. Enjoy the view down to Tolmin and - if you're not early - watch the paragliders takeoff.
Ride
Kobala Doubletrack back. After passing the building of planini Stador on your right you should slow down and have a look to your left, where the real downhill
Upper Stador Trail starts as a small path. Crossing the paved road you'll get immediately the hardest part. Reaching the paved road, you'll have had fun.
Take a U-turn at the paved road and follow it for about 200m up to a junction. There is a meadow on your right and on the edge of this meadow the
Middle Stador Trail starts. After passing the first gate take care to follow the right trail. Passing the second gate, the trail leads you clearly back to the paved road.
At the following U-turn of the paved road starts the
Lower Stador Doubletrack. Get speed on it, cross a mostly dry creek, and reach the meadows west of the village of Ljubinj.
Take the
Lower Stador Trail on your right hand to finish the downhill. This nice singletrack brings you back to the lowest point of the round at paved road between Poljubinj and Ljubinj.
History & Background
A "new" paved road up to the mountains divides the old trail into sections. In some of them this old trail is nearly forgotten.
