Description
BBQ begins at an abandoned picnic shelter along
Rocky Ridge Trail. Facing downhill, it is to the left, while
MD40 Loop bears off from the same shelter to the right.
The trail begins along an old road and travels gently uphill. It then bears left onto singletrack up a short, punchy climb. The trail winds through an abandoned picnic area and has several small rollers. At about 0.3 miles in, it switch backs to the right to begin a descent off the hill. This section is flowy and fun. 0 .5-0.6 miles in, the trail crosses a small drainage feature. There is a small bridge and the approach is slightly off-angled. The downhill (right) side of the bridge falls away steeply several feet into an eroded creek bed. Caution is warranted here.
After this bridge, the trail climbs slightly and winds around the ridge. Just past the top of this short uphill section, the trail pitches steeply downhill for several hundred feet. At the bottom of this descent, it bears left and runs along a bench on the hillside before dropping again and exiting in a field along the park road. Bear right here and ride along the wood line towards a soccer field.
As you approach the soccer field, the trail turns right again and goes back into the woods and up the hill. The climb here is short but a bit punchy. The trail then runs along the contour of the hill and exits into a another field on the other side of the soccer field. From here, you can ride along the road or cross the road and enter on Shelter 6 access to
Rocky Ridge Trail to access trails on the lower side of the park road. Riders can also turn right and follow Charles Hagermann Way to where
Rocky Ridge Trail crosses the road.
