Overview

A fun, long ride. No extra steeps with a nice view of Honey Lake Valley. You won't meet many on this ride.

Need to Know

Snow impacts access in winter months. Use Forest Service maps or the MTB Project mobile app for guidance along the route.

Description

This ride takes you on a complete circular route around Diamond Mountain, elevation 7,738 feet. It will provide numerous views of the Honey Lake Valley to the east also allowing views of the Skedadle Mountains and other desert peaks in Nevada. To the west, you have views down Lights Creek towards Taylorsville and the Indian Valley.

Riding the route in a clockwise direction will give you a steady climb to the high point followed by some mixed ups and downs and a steeper descent down Gold Run Road.

History & Background

Starting off in Susanville will give you a chance to see the town's murals. Be sure to visit the historic railroad depot that can provide ideas for other rides. Some riders really enjoy the added fun of visiting the unique Pioneer for refreshments.
