Gate at the top (always open); gate at the end, easy to cross, no issues with private property.

Need to Know

Absolutely no facilities. The closest would be climbing back up to Oak Glen at the end, or faster would be a quick downhill on Oak Glen Road and Wildwood Canyon Drive back to the public park there.

Description

The best way to ride Pisgah Peak is to climb up from the west (the Wildwood Canyon saddle) to the gate at the top. From the top, take this road down through Bear Valley to rejoin the downhill portion of Oak Glen Road. Done in this way, it's a super hard climb to the top, and a nice and fast downhill ride back to civilization.

There are several areas that are rutted out, particularly after heavy rains (some ruts so large that you have to get off the bike and carry them over). However, most of the road is smooth and fast. Super fun on gravel bikes and mountain bikes as well :)

The road is closed to vehicular traffic, and there are very few signs of other people. Most hikers you encounter will be on the fire road on the way up.
