Description
Oso Trail in Casper's Wilderness Park is a 5 mile long dog-leg connecting San Juan Creek Trail to
Bell Canyon Trail. This trail will test your aerobic capacity and offer an honest Intermediate technical level riding the steeper, longer descents toward Bell Canyon. The east to west routing indicated here is probably the easier climb and more technical descent. Although there are no drops, significant erosion in spots has degraded the doubletrack into a singletrack with some deep ruts. There are also some loose double-fist sized rocks that you need to maneuver around or bunny-hop.
This trail reaches the deepest interior sections of Caper's Park offering amazing, sweeping Spring-time views. As you ride away from San Juan Creek, the noise from Ortega Highway (SR-74) quickly subsides as you climb. At the top and as you start the ride to the west it is hard to believe that such a place like this exists within 15 miles of urban Orange County.
Remember THIS IS LION COUNTRY and large fresh foot-prints were present in the mud on the trail at the back of the park. Ride with a partner in case someone breaks down and you need to hike out.
