Description
The trail starts with a left turn into the woods near a meadow that's often filled with tents and vehicles during a race weekend. The race route is marked with arrows, so route-finding shouldn't be a problem. You'll weave between the trees on flowy singletrack for about a mile. The first steep climb is loose and marks the beginning of more technical riding.
From here, the trail is tight, technical, and steep with frequent punchy climbs and descents. Around mile three, you'll be greeted with extensive views of an abandoned limestone quarry filled with dark blue-green water before dropping back into the woods. Watch where you're going here, as a significant mistake could send you off the "cliff" in some spots.
After turning away from the quarry, the technicality ramps up again with a few punchy climbs and descents, as well as some awkward technical moves.
At almost four miles in, there's a very steep climb to a small ridge, followed by a ripping descent to the edge of another quarry. The trail parallels the edge for a few hundred feet before turning back into the woods. Once again, watch where you're going here: it could be a long, cold swim to the other side if you majorly miscalculate something.
After some more semi-technical riding, you'll pop out into a wide-open field. Head across the field and up into the woods where a steep climb and descent is waiting for you. The cornering situation at the bottom of this hill is less than ideal, so try not to overcook it when you ride down.
After descending, you'll head through the same wide-open field, dip into the woods one last time, and then follow a small section of doubletrack back to where you started.
Saddle up for another (exhausting) lap or two, or pack-up and head over to San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park for some flowier riding.
