Family Friendly
This regional park is full of family activities, with plenty of safe swimming, endless things to explore along the beach, and wide, non-technical trails. Everything in the park is family-friendly.
Need to Know
The park is predator free, and the council works hard to protect the birds (like kiwi) that they've reintroduced here. They ask that you clean your bike and tires before entering the park, and no pets of any kind are allowed.
Description
As far as mountain bike tracks go, this isn't anything special, but the views more than make up for it. The track climbs up from a point just around the corner from the main parking and restrooms, and reaches the highest point overlooking the entire Tawharanui coastline and beyond. The trail surface is mostly dense grass that makes pedaling a bit slow-going at times but it's kept nice and short which helps.
From here, you can check out the Tokatū Point Overlook and head back the way you came, or continue on the
South Coast Track for a much longer loop all the way back to the main gate at the entrance to the park.
White markers will guide you along the way.
