Need to Know

Parking at any of the county parks is $9.00 for a day pass. If your going to use them a lot better to get a annual pass on line.
$90-$120. Veterans and Seniors $65

Description

Off of CR23 (Horsetooth Reservoir drive) park at the Sunrise County parking lot. (Marked as Horsetooth Reservoir Outlook on the MTB map) (fee is $9.00 unless you have an annual pass).

Jump on the Maxwell/foothills trail at the end (south) of the parking lot nearest the gate and bathrooms. It's a quick down hill and small incline singletrack before crossing over the paved road (CR23). Re-enter where you see all the posted signs across the street.
Enjoy this flowing singletrack until after a small climb you'll come to a wooden sign post separating Maxwell (to the left) and Foothills (to the right and up the hill). Take the right and climb up the short hill and cross back over CR 23 at the top.
You'll be directly across from the north end of the Rotary Parking lot.

Re-enter the Foothills/Shoreline trail on your right but take the left trail that heads down hill at the fork with the wooden sign post. This is the best section of the ride but is a strong blue-rated trail with some Black Diamond thrown in. Plus your right next to the lake the whole time. Ride until you reach the sunrise swimming area, double back heading up the paved ramp or the steep dirt track on your right to the top and the parking lot.
