Family Friendly
Easy and fun, one of the best loops around with good, midly-rocky singletrack without much climbing.
Overview
Big Trees is a gem. Very flowy, but with some technical spots that will make all riders have fun. After you reach the Redwood Glen Trailhead, continue the trail on your left. At the bottom, there is a jump, so try to gather speed! The rest of it is pretty flowy without too many rocks.
Need to Know
If Sequoia Arena is gated off to cars, park at Redwood Bowl Staging Area and bike over to Sequoia Arena to start the ride.
Description
Park at the Sequoia Arena Parking Lot on Skyline Blvd. Start by heading down the paved road to
Sequoia Bayview Trail. This is an easy, mostly-flat doubletrack used as a connector trail. After a couple of miles, turn left on
Big Trees Trail.
The trail starts to climb, although it's not too steep and pretty short. Soon, you'll reach a huge hill covered in rocks. On the right is an easier bypass for climbing. After passing the hill, you'll shortly reach a paved road. This is a good bail-out section if the climb was too hard or rocky. If not, then continue right to the Redwood Glen Trailhead Parking Lot. Follow the trail until it turns right back into the park. Drop in, and enjoy the fun downhill.
After more downhill (and some uphill), you'll reach a fork with
Sequoia Bayview Trail and
Palos Colorados Trail. If you are adventurous, take a shot at
Palos Colorados Trail. The more recommended route, however, is turning back onto
Sequoia Bayview Trail and doing
Big Trees Trail again, as much as you want.
