Overview

April – October: 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.; November – March: 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; views of Pikes Peak and the burned areas from the Overlook.

Need to Know

Signs are posted to indicate you are off the trail, many homes and dirt roads in the area, avoid these areas.

Description

From the parking lot, follow the dirt road past restrooms on the left. Approaching the trees after about 0.25mi down the dirt road, the singletrack starts with a slight right off the road. The trail will lead to a fork where you can go left (CW) or right (CCW). Going CW will take you up and around to the Overlook fastest.

History & Background

The site straddles the Palmer Divide in the Black Forest and is characterized by gentle rolling terrain, covered by ponderosa pine forests, grassland meadows, wetlands, dotted with small ponds with abundant wildlife, including elk, white tail deer, raptors, and turkeys.

The Palmer Land Trust holds a conservation easement on the site which ensures scenic, wildlife, aesthetic, recreational, and ecological conservation values will be preserved and maintained in perpetuity.
