Need to Know
This is a multi-use trail and is shared with hikers and the occasional equestrian. Please be respectful to other users. Trail signs are well marked with wooden signs. Parking is accessible at Boat Dock Rd and Cove Hollow Rd. This trail is officially managed by the Forest Service but is more often maintained by a few volunteers in the area. Trees come down after storms, and are not always dealt with very fast and sections of trail can wash out after big storms. Bringing a handsaw is always recommended, and well performed maintenance makes a difference for all riders. If you'd like to get involved with aiding in maintaining this and other trails of the area, contact SMBA at shawneemtb@gmail.com
Description
Good undulating cross country singletrack with roots, flowy bits, technical rock gardens, punchy hills, fast descents and great scenery.
Being mostly bench cut, this area drains relatively fast, but the dense canopy keeps things a tad moist here after rains.
Technical rock gardens and climbs will test your skills and pedal awareness; picking your line is the game here. Take time to enjoy the towering sandstone bluffs, beautiful lake and intermittent waterfalls.
The trail is ~4-6 miles one way from Cove Hollow Rd. parking lot to the Boat Dock Rd Trailhead depending exactly which route you take.
Wolf Den Loop #378 takes you up and on the bluff line adding ~1.8 miles to the ~ 4 miles of the main Cove Hollow Trail #385.
The trail is enjoyable in both directions.
