This route can be traveled in either direction. It's 100% doubletrack fire road with a great heart-pumping climb for all skill levels. Taking the route in the reverse direction is a good opportunity for beginners to practice their downhill on a controlled non-technical fire road.

Beginning in Carson City at Ash Canyon Road and Wellington Street, travel along the paved Carson V&T Rail Trail with scenic views of Carson City. The trail continues up into Lakeview until the fire road begins at the Hobart Reservoir Trailhead. The sweeping views of Washoe Valley and Slide Mountain begin around mile four and continue until the trail intersects with Franktown Creek Road.

Continue ascending as the trail passes Hobart Creek Reservoir and takes a left on Marlette Lake Road. This final leg of the journey ends at a campground clearing where it meets the Tahoe Rim Trail.
