ADA Accessible Several ADA compliant parking areas and some with ADA restrooms available.

Family Friendly Ease of access to and from the trail. Many trailheads make easy shorter trips if going one way. Wide, compacted, well-maintained trails.

Need to Know

Parking areas at the larger trailheads are clearly marked and have plenty of space. Some also have portable restrooms available. Smaller trailheads have more limited parking and have signage for proper parking. Please do not block the trail when parking at these places.

Please note that the rail trail does cross several major roadways including a couple major highways but no worry. All the places passing the turnpike and major highways are going by way of underpasses or bridges. More commonly used secondary roads are typically well marked with crosswalks and trail crossing signs. Most crossings are back roads that see little traffic with exceptions at the 743 crossing outside of Etown and the 117 crossing at Colebrook. Both are very busy county highways and use caution crossing.

Description

This rails to trails is used by hikers, bikers, and horseback riders. It is mostly flat with the only minor inclines being around the Mt Gretna area.

You'll find trailhead parking at most road crossings that vary in size from three cars to twenty cars worth of space. The larger parking areas even have port-a-jons and at a couple places they are ADA complaint and parking at the larger trailheads may have designated parking spaces. The amount of parking areas along the trail make it great for piecing it out for smaller rides if you prefer to not do the entire trail.

At a few places along the trail you are close enough to some convenience stores to easily grab a snack or drinks without adding more than a couple hundred yards to the trip. Notably the Colebrook area and the Mt Gretna area. There is also a small bike shop (Rails to Trails Bicycle Shop) within fifty yards of the Route 743 crossing that offers bike rentals, sales, and repairs. Please check their website for hours and information since I am not able to speak for them.

This is actually two trails that change names at a county border but there is no difference in the trail.
