This trail is both singletrack and doubletrack through it's course. It is best ridden as a descent, but the lower part can be used to access other trails. Some people choose to ride up, but typically end up pushing their bikes at times. The top of the trail can also be accessed by either riding or driving to the trailhead on Kate's Mountain Road. There's an area big enough to park a few cars next to some large trees if one is willing to shuttle.

The trail begins as a fairly flat singletrack. This area can be somewhat overgrown in the summer. The grade will gradually get steeper and more rocky as you go with a moderately sloped drop-off on your left. In places there will be turns but most of the trail is pretty straight. In places it will widen out into doubletrack allowing for very fast descents. Watch out for random logs, sticks and the occasional rock in the doubletrack section.

After a sweeping turn to the right, you'll begin the final descent to Black Bear Trail. There are three water bars with the last being deep and steep. At the intersection with Black Bear, the trail turns left and gradually descends to the road. You can access Old Fields Trail, Loop A, Twin Pines Trail and Holler Trail in the final 0.25 miles.
