Need to Know
The trail is almost entirely lined with people's backyards and private property. Stay on the trail and between the fence lines and watch for pedestrians and horses.
Description
This trail starts directly adjacent to the end of the
Estante Rim Trail Access and would normally be ridden as a way back to White Rock from
Potrillo Canyon Loop Trail if you didn't want to climb back up Potrillo Canyon (which is smart because downhill traffic is fast and the turns are sharp).
Cross Estante Way and ride out to Potrillo Dr, where you cross the road and continue directly on the other side to more singletrack. At the T intersection, take a right to come down to Rio Bravo. Take a left on Rio Bravo and then dive back into singletrack to your right just across the street. Take a left at the next T intersection and continue straight out to the Rio Bravo again (because the road curves around, not because the trail curves back). Take another left on Rio Bravo and ride about 2,000' on the road to another singletrack section on your right just before the intersection with Monte Rey Dr.
Hang a left at the first trail junction (or you can turn at the second junction just slightly farther on, same difference) and you'll hit the only really technical climb of this trail, tough but it's short. There is a rocky climb up to the equestrian facility at the intersection of Piedra Loop and Piedra Dr. Hang a right on the road at the horse corral and go straight through the intersection.
On the far side of Piedra Loop, there is a paved asphalt trail section (in bad shape, watch for holes and other obstacles) that goes into the trees. Follow the paved trail about 400' and there will be a singletrack section on the right. Follow it down to the Red Dot trailhead. From there, you can ride back into White Rock by heading left on Piedra Loop to Sherwood and connect to the
Canyon Rim Trail if desired.
