Fairly flat but has one large bridge climb when crossing the Rt. 59 overpass. A nice loop.

Overview

Open prairies, cuts through Knock Knolls Woods, passes by many bodies of water and a huge loop around the beautiful Whalon Lake.

There are a variety of trails that split off this main trail, some singletrack in Knock Knolls Woods, and other connecting trails that go in many directions.

Need to Know

Plenty of parking at various points throughout the trail with bathrooms.

Description

From the parking lot, you head to the east through a fairly flat and straight path. You'll have a large brief climb going over the RT. 59 overpass. Then it is smooth sailing on fairly flat and straight paths until you reach a point where the trail takes a left turn. This goes along the road, turns again to the right following down 95th Street, all on paths.

95th Street takes you to the Knock Knolls area where the path curves through the middle of the woods. You continue to the east cutting through grassland areas, prairies, small bodies of water and the DuPage River.

Finally, you'll round the loop around the beautiful Whalon Lake. The return trip is the same as the way you came. There are plenty of other trails branching off this main path going in a variety of directions for further exploration.
