Unfortunately, Berry College doesn't blaze any of the trails or put signs up with names.
Overview
Need to Know
Lots of great dining downtown (take a right out of Berry) and excellent places to relax with craft-brewed beers (The Foundry) in downtown Rome.
We have a local bike shop downtown as well.
If you need a quick bite to eat, take a left out of Berry College and travel a mile or so for several well-known fast food options.
Description
Start from the parking lot of Victory Lake, officially known as Old High School Road (a small parking area). Travel past the yellow gate; Victory Lake will be on your left for the next 0.5 miles. A point of interest is a stone bridge about 0.25 miles down the road. To the left is Victory Lake, and to the right will be a stone stacked small wall with a creek. This is where two training scenes were shot for "Remember The Titans."
From here, you'll travel a wide fire road for 2.5 miles with heavily wooded areas on both sides. You can use this as a nice warm-up for the singletrack to come (
Rollercoaster Trail (Horse Trail)). You'll pass another yellow gate with a house on the right at about 2.5 miles or so. Keep pedaling, and you'll see a parking lot on your left as you near the intersection. To the left is Frost Chapel, and the right is
Hurtin' Gator. Veer left, and you'll pass through another yellow gate.
At this point, you'll have a 0.25 mile or so of paved road to travel. Take a right as you pass over the speed bump. This is a duck pond with a stone bridge. Follow the stone and gravel path until the end. At this point, you'll see two houses to the left and right and an outdoor basketball gym in front. Turn right, follow the road to the left for another 0.5 miles or so. You'll see another yellow gate leading to the Water Wheel (dirt road), a white house to the right, and a road to the left with a small parking area (four spaces). Two points of entry are marked with yellow poles; take either one. Welcome to the Rollercoaster.
This is a little over two mile of fun singletrack. Here you'll find some tight, rooty turns, a small creek crossing, a couple of log crossings, and a fun technical climb. Take this all the way out, and it empties into a three-way crossing. Many options from here, but to complete The Decade, turn around, get in the attack position, and take the Rollercoaster back for the next mile. Now catch your breath, and retrace your path to Victory Lake parking lot.
