Description
Access is off of Badin Lake Rd, FSR 597, which is a dirt road. There is a place to park near the start of the trail. Be warned, this is primarily a horse trail, as many are in the Uwharries, but is a trail that has a lot of potential for mountain biking if it gets maintenance. Also be warned that at the furthest point on the trail, it overlaps with the Blackburn Trail and if there has been recent rain it can be quite muddy and slow going.
That all being said, on to the guidance. From the dirt road, you ride around the gate (where the Greg sign is located) and ride up an unused access road. It's a bit of a climb with a fair amount of loose rocks. You'll eventually come to another Greg sign where the trail turns right or you can continue straight.
Upon turning right, you get a proper mountain bike singletrack trail for about a decent bit and then you'll come to a creek and then another climb. At the top of that climb, I usually turn back and ride it backwards since you are at the furthest point anyway and if you continue on, it is flat and muddy for some ways.
This is where the trails overlaps with Blackburn and then eventually you come to the intersection of the Greg and Short trails. Turn left onto Greg and a small descent, another climb and then the loop is completed and you ride back down to your car.
This trail does, at times, have fallen trees that require dismount. It's not a long trail but there is rarely anyone on it and it's a nice, quiet, undisturbed part of the forest.
