Description
As the name would indicate, Sidewinder winds its way in and out all of the fingers of the western side of the hill, working its way north/south.
This trail connects the paved southern entrance of the park with
Copperhead Trail near Grouse Point further to the north, with one bail-out mid-way through where you can ride up to the top of the ridge to the park's cabins.
The summary above depicts this as the most challenging trail in the park, and that is true; depending on the direction you choose to ride it.
Riding from the southern end northward, this trail is littered with plenty of technical climbing sections, and will net you a couple hundred feet of elevation gain. So: challenging to your technical climbing skills and challenging to your conditioning. The few downhill sections when riding in this direction are themselves unrewarding, and serve only to take away any elevation you've fought for up to that point.
Starting from the northern end of the trail will give you a different experience. The technical climbs of course turn into short, technical descents, with natural drops and jumps for those who are aggressive and vigilant in looking for them.
Be sure to take a moment to try to spot the beaver living in the marsh by the trail side near the southern end of the trail!
