Need to Know

As with all trails around the Ajo area, note that there is only a local health clinic with limited hours and no emergency services. There is an ambulance service in Ajo, but it is a long ride to the nearest hospital near Phoenix!

Keep that in mind when riding trails in the area. Helivac insurance is available from several helicopter companies in Arizona, and may be worth the investment if you like to take unnecessary risks in remote country.

Description

This is a great, challenging trail that has some short, steep climbs over rock and scree and similarly rocky descents. The 3rd and final climb to the south will most likely require a dismount as it is quite steep and up loose rock - the most experienced riders can hope to make it 1/3 of the way up the final climb with a fatbike.

The descent from that same hill is steep with large, loose rock that should not be attempted by inexperienced riders - there are other trails that make this loop shorter by cutting off north of this southern-most hill on the loop, so no need to attempt this if not comfortable with it.

However, the remaining descent after that scree is a blast that includes some potential small jumps and twitchy turns...

Best to run through the loop at slow speeds initially to get a good feel for the trail, especially as it is driven by OHVs regularly and that means conditions can change rapidly.

Nothing to ramble about, this trail as described is an off-roading trail so there isn't anything attractive for MTB riding except the views. 4mi — 4h 50m
