Overview

There are several parking areas with access to Rose Lake State Wildlife Research Area. This description begins in the gravel parking area off of Peacock Rd (across from the Rose Lake shooting range) and completes about a 6.5-mile loop.

Need to Know

No restrooms or water available. Make sure to have a valid Recreation Passport as Rose Lake is a state wildlife area and managed by the DNR.

Description

*Trail users in the area are most often; hikers, dog walkers, trail runners and bikers, so be alert for two-way traffic as trails are not directional.

Head down the singletrack for a short way and dismount to climb up and cross over a bridge (Vermilion Creek). Once riding again, you'll quickly come to a singletrack option on your left. Turn L and head up and over a few rolling hills. You are now on the outer Rose Lake loop and heading clockwise.

Rose Lake offers many options and there are no trail markers so using the recommended trail route in the MTB Project mobile app will allow for an enjoyable ride.

Riders will experience several steep climbs and descents, with roots and small rocks. Multiple skinnys that cross creeks, beautiful marshland views and a small jumpline. A small section of the trail utilizes doubletrack and some of the center trails can get a bit sandy.
