Family Friendly Easy trail with very small optional berms and one little ramp. There's an "outdoor classroom" space at the trailhead for sitting down or getting gear together. Playgrounds nearby.

Part of this trail runs directly behind an elementary school, so be courteous of the school's space and activities.

Need to Know

It might be difficult to park near this trail if you visit it while school is in session (i.e., between 8:00 am and 3:30 pm on weekdays during the school year) since nearby parking will be taken up by school employees. The outdoor classroom space at the trailhead is used by the nearby schools this trail is named for, so please clean up after yourself.

The closest public restrooms are at the White Oak Station on Crossover Rd., and awesome local BBQ can be found nearby at Penguin Ed's Cafe on Mission Blvd.

Description

There are two ways to access this trail -- the easiest being to start in the outdoor classroom space near the west parking lot of Vandergriff Elementary. If school isn't in session, the west parking lot is also the best place to park. You can see the sign for the outdoor classroom and the trail from the west parking lot.

Walk straight through the outdoor classroom until you see the trail, which starts at a dip. You can then go left or right; going right will provide you with a slightly longer ride. At the next fork, go right to go down the hill, or go left to circle back to the trailhead.

If you go right, you'll find mild downhill terrain and two or three small, optional berms. You'll also pass the alternate entrance to the trail on Vandergriff Dr., which is marked by a cairn and another trail sign.

When you reach the lowest point on this trail, you can access Flynn Creek and Township St. The climb back up to the trailhead is moderately steep, and although it's still on easy terrain, it might be difficult for new or young riders. There's a very small, optional ramp about halfway up the climb.

Immediately before the trailhead, the trail will get moderately steep again. After climbing this small hill, you'll have made a full circle on the trail and will be back at the trailhead.
