Need to Know
Park at the parking lot about mile away from the highway, look for Julie Creek Trailhead sign.
Description
First 5.75 miles, you are gradually climbing on an old road that has some washout spots. Be careful of the cliff views. Then you begin your ascent to meet up with
Deadwood Ridge trail.
This trail is close to Lowman, ID. If you're headed from Banks, look for the sign that shows Julie Creek Trail on the highway about 30 miles in. If you're headed from Lowman, turn left toward Banks and it's about four miles in, right after the Deadwood campground. Once you pass Deadwood River, turn right and head up a mile to the Julie Creek trailhead parking lot. There is a bathroom there, might be closed in winter time. Lots of people hike the first six miles during the weekend.
The ride starts with a gradual climb for the first six miles along an old forest road, watch out for a few washout spots that bring you close to the cliff.
After you pass the Deadwood bridge, you begin a six-mile climb to connect with
Deadwood Ridge trail. About a mile in, you arrive at the switchbacks that push toward the ridgeline. Once you're on top, it's about another 1k-foot climb over three miles.
There were a lot of downed trees that you have to pick up your bike to go around. Maybe the trail crew will clean them up this summer.
