Hit Sammy's for a burger and beer after your ride or Capitol Deli. Both quality spots with great patios!
Description
The Hogback Highway starts at the new GHT/Rifle Arch parking lot off Hwy 13 about 7 miles north of Rifle. The trail is mostly used as a climbing trail to access
Watchtower,
Miller High Life, and
Wall Street. It starts as a machine-built trail switchback up to the first mesa. The trail is a very pleasant climb undulating up and down past a variety of desert terrain such as juniper, pinion pine, cactus, etc... As you reach the top, the trail splits right and left.
Right takes you to
Haze, a short connector trail to
Watchtower. Left continues on the Hogback Highway. Your next intersection will come after a larger meadow and some moderate rim riding.
At the second junction, left continues you on the Hogback Highway again and right takes you to the climb for
Miller High Life. Shortly after this intersection, the trail begins to descend into the gully. This is a popular spot for two-way traffic so watching for climbing bikes.
After the short descent, you'll reach intersection #3. Left again takes you on the Hogback Highway to the B-Side Doubletrack Connecting Trail. Right here will take you on
Wall Street. The Hogback Highway ends at the doubletrack. Be careful to not climb the
Notorious B-Side here, it's downhill only.
