Overview
Quick access from local Dillon Valley or
Oro Grande Trail. Rewarding views during the climb right before some even more rewarding downhill. A great lunch loop, before breakfast loop, or anytime of the day loop, really.
Description
Start off going south on
Oro Grande Trail doubletrack before taking
Tenderfoot Trail up and to the left. Follow this steady climb up 1.2 miles and enjoy views of Lake Dillon Reservoir and Summit County as you go. Not much protection from the sun as you climb incentivizes you to make this section at a decent pace.
Once on top, pass through a wooden gate and go left to a great downhill section of
Tenderfoot Mountain Trail. Starting in a shady lodgepole forest, this section winds down the north side of Tenderfoot Mountain with great flow and pace through aspens as you near the bottom.
Meet up with the Forest Service road and head left back to your car or take a right and connect to trails further up Straight Creek.
This is a great loop if you want a quick taste of Tenderfoot Mountain!
