Description
This is a one-way flow trail with berms and rollers, open to bike traffic. Dropping in from the top, you'll be treated to some high speed rollers before encountering a series of tight berms that keep the trail flowing down a narrow ridgeline. You'll be able to admire mature aspen trees with thick trunks before the trail drops further down the mountain into dark timber forests on steep side slopes. Towards the bottom of the trail you'll pass through areas heavily impacted by the former coal mining era activities, but now in the process of being restored into a beautiful natural area.
The lowest part of the trail, at the east end, connects to the Coal Basin Ranch Trailhead and Parking Lot. This lowest section of trail allows two-way traffic and hiking to connect to the bottom east end of the
Dutch Creek Trail.
This trail rides great as a clockwise loop riding up the
Dutch Creek Trail, or the Coal Basin Trail. Towards the bottom of this trail you'll find the optional
Flying Dutch Boy, a short jump line that is easy to session by climbing back up the two-way portion of the Bear Ridge trail.
