Overview
A great taste of some of the best singletrack in this compact network. It offers a mix of smooth climbing and fun downhill sections, including the best non-lift accessed downhill in the area--
Razzmatazz. Another classic in this combo is
WTB Trail, which makes a worthy out-and-back trip in the middle of the loop. Altogether this link up offers an excellent variety of scenery, practice on all types of terrain, and just a darn good time on a bike from start to finish.
Description
Start at the Vasquez parking lot and begin a half-mile climb up
Sunset Pink. Turn right onto
Akima's Way for another half mile of climbing. Once you reach
Razzmatazz (formerly "Howler"), open your shock and get ready for 1.2 miles of Trestle-like downhill. This is a downhill-only trail with berms, rollers and doubles. It is some of the best non-lift access downhill riding in Winter Park.
Once you've completed
Razzmatazz (formerly "Howler"), turn right onto
Upper Sundog. This will be the beginning of a 2.5-mile climb. Take
Upper Sundog to
Sunset Pink and turn right. Follow
Sunset Pink to
Akima's Way.
Akima's Way will take you to
WTB Trail.
You'll ride
WTB Trail as an out-and-back. This is a fun flow trail with berms and kickers. At about 1.2 miles in, you'll start your descent. Once you reach the end of
WTB Trail, turn around. This direction is the preferred way to ride this trail. You'll have about a mile of climbing before hitting all the features you spotted on the way up.
When you've finished your descent, look for WTB and turn right. This trail is also known as WTB East. This will be your last climb of the day. Take WTB to
D4 and turn right. WTB and
D4 climb for a little over a mile before you link up with
Leap Frog.
You'll stay on
Leap Frog for 2.4 miles which takes you back to the parking lot.
Leap Frog is a really great trail to work on your technical skills. It has a large variety of obstacles from large boulders to roll over, drops from 1 to 4 ft tall, rocky sections, and narrow trees that take some handlebar maneuvering.
