Description
The eastern trailhead begins in Villa Park, Illinois on the west side of S. Villa Ave. about 0.2 miles south of St. Charles Rd. It travels from Villa Park through the suburbs of Lombard, Glen Ellyn, Carol Stream, Winfield, and Wheaton where it joins the
Illinois Prairie Path: Elgin Branch. It's constructed of crushed limestone and is wide enough for bicycles to easily pass each other in opposite directions. Much of the trail is lined with trees and foliage on both sides.
The trail crosses 17 streets over its entire length with many grouped together which allows enjoying long sections without interruptions. It's marked well and as it's almost completely straight, is easy to follow. In Villa Park, Lombard, and Carol Stream, refreshments and food can be found not far off the trail.
Views change from urban to wild upon crossing Swift Rd. in Glen Ellyn. Turtles and small Bull snakes (they scare away easily) might be seen sunning on the path. Chipmunks abound. Spring Peepers can be heard from the wetlands. Hawks and vultures sail high in the air.
