Pay-to-park at USFS trailheads. Closed late Sept/early October until spring.
Overview
Enjoy the lack of crowds in southern Colorado as you climb ATV trails and descend chunky singletrack down Baker Creek. Great views of the Spanish Peaks and Cuchara Valley throughout, along with deep, dank woods and multiple stream crossings which combine for a real backcountry feel. Once you reach the first fork from Spring Creek trailhead, you aren't likely to see more than one or two people max.
Need to Know
Parking at Spring Creek trailhead near Cuchara is $10/day and closed during the winter. You can also park at Bear Lake campground and ride in via Indian Creek.
Description
From Spring Creek trailhead ($10 parking fee, closed winters), climb rutted two-track up to the fork. Take a right to continue on
Dodgeton Creek #1302 through aspen groves. There is plenty of steep ascending on this route so settle in for a while.
At the next fork, continue right, then take a left onto
Indian Creek #1300. Don't worry, your long climb will reap rewards after you reach the apex. Descend a bit to the next fork and turn left onto
Baker Creek #1301.
Drop that seat and get ready to rip! A thin ribbon of singletrack weaves along and across the creek, with chunky sections and great views ahead. After about three miles of singletrack bliss, you'll rejoin
Dodgeton Creek #1302 and rip the last mile to your car.
