Description
Racoon Trail can be used to connect the two Road Apple trails to avoid the narrow two lane highway. It starts near the end of
Road Apple West Trail and heads south down the hill and across the valley. After about 1,000 feet, you'll approach the first of three oil and gas sites. Veer left and travel down the dirt road to take the first right onto the second oil and gas site. Stay to the right of the equipment to join the singletrack on the southern end of the site (southwest corner).
The singletrack ends at the third oil and gas location after about 800 feet. Go right to avoid the equipment but do not take the dirt road. The singletrack is located towards the center of the site. The trail will bottom out at the lower part of the valley in a clear parking area after crossing County Road 1980. There are very large power lines running down the valley floor. The trail is very well marked after this point and continues south across the main glade drainage.
After popping out of the wash, you'll travel trough a sagebrush flat, taking a left before an isolated piece of oil and gas equipment. Continue on the singletrack for about 1,200 feet that parallels a road before crossing a large dirt road. This is the last intersection you'll cross until entering
Road Apple East Trail. This trail is the funnest if ridden south to north (Road Apple East to Road Apple West) to the first road intersection.
