Need to Know

This is a free public bike park designed by Trail Solutions, built by Barry Smith Trails, and made possible by the following partners: Friends of Unaka Bike Park, Erwin Utilities, Erwin Fiber, Tennessee Valley Authority, the Town of Erwin, RISE Erwin, SORBA Tri-Cities, IMBA, and many donors and volunteers.

This trail is part of phase one of the Unaka Bike Park. The park is located in Erwin, TN just off I-26 between Asheville and Johnson City. It's an easy 0.6-mile ride to downtown Erwin which has restaurants, shopping, a weekly/seasonal farmer's market, Erwin Linear Trail, and many other amenities. The Appalachian Trail, Nolichucky River access is also just a short ride from town.

Description

Gomers Loop is the main cross-country loop in phase one of the Unaka Bike Park. The trail takes you on a 1.6-mile ride that traverses through a rhododendron and laurel forest and connects you to the top and bottom of Roli Noli. This trail is rated for beginners, and the trail width is 4" wide in most places.

The most technically challenging aspect of this trail is the switchbacks and the trail tread does have a few small rocky sections, but overall it's smooth. The trail climbs and descends just under a 5% average grade which is less than the Pinnacle Mountain Tower Trail in comparison to a local trail.

To access this trail from the trailhead, take the main connector from the trailhead until you reach the utility property access road and first trail hub. It's about 100 ft of elevation of climbing whether you go left or right until you reach one of the lower ridge contours. From there, the trail is relatively flat and flowy on the upper portion until you reach the trail hub at the top for Roli Noli. Both sides are fun to descend which gives you 3 different ways to get back to the bottom including the gravity trail.
