One Way Only: This is designated as a directional trail.
Description
Almond Joy is an offshoot from
Mounds that provides a bypass of the chute but also continues on its own with its own unique set of challenges. Branching off to the right from
Mounds, the trail is tightly hand cut and clings to the hillside. There are some sections that are steeper than others and riders with less experience will need to practice their speed management in this upper section.
Riders will quickly come to an option as the
Almond Joy Alt Connector approaches. The connector is a highly off camber technical connection back to
Mounds that rejoins it below the chute and above the rock garden.
Mounds will merge in from the left.
To continue on Almond Joy itself where the alternative connector begins, simply turn to the right straight down the hill. It's the steepest section of the trail. It is also very wide and riders can experiment with different line choices as there are several small rocks that will provide a more playful descent if one chooses. A very brief flat portion provides a braking opportunity before the trail banks right into a wide flowey section. The trail starts to narrow as riders will have to roll a steep limestone slab to the left into a right handed catch berm. One can also simply load up the suspension, and with enough speed, launch into the catch berm below.
Several rollers allow for some playful riding before the end. The trail splits just before the intersection with Low Rider. The left side is more technical but also offers line choice and another chance to get the tires off the ground. The split to the right is easier but can be just as fun.
Here, riders can ride up Low Rider &
Sunbridge Road back to the top or down to
Jekyll & Hyde to the shuttle pick up area on Waterworks Road.
