Overview
This ride climbs the
Rawhide Trail to
Page Meadows. The beautiful meadows can be a sea of wildflowers in spring. This ride is non-technical, but with some loose gravel to navigate.
Need to Know
Currently, parking at the 64 Acres parking lot is free and there are port-a-potties in the parking lot.
Description
Recommended start is the 64 Acres parking lot near the transit center in town.
From the parking lot, pedal towards Hwy 89, take a right on the bike path and head south along the highway. Turn right on Granlibakken Road, then take the third left onto Rawhide Drive. At the end of Rawhide Dr. continue up on a dirt path and pass a FS gate, this is the beginning of the
Rawhide Trail.
Follow this wide main trail up as it turns from doubletrack to singletrack. About 3.5 miles from the parking lot, bear right at a fork and enjoy winding singletrack, at the next junction take a right, then stay left for the main trail to
Page Meadows. This trail will bring you around the edge of the meadow with a full view of its impressive scenery.
At the next T-junction, take a right on a wide gravel path, this is the Tahoe Rim Trail (
Tahoe Rim Trail: Tahoe City to PCT/Granite Chief Wilderness/Twin Peaks).
From here, you can choose to turn around and go back the way you came, or for a full loop continue north on the TRT, take a right on Rusty's and continue down Flintstones (fast and loose). Going this way (full loop), at the end of the switchbacking singletrack you'll cross a gravel road and continue upstream along the river going past another FS gate and onto the bike path right back to the parking lot.
This ride starts and ends near the Truckee River, so come prepared for a river cool-down on hot days. (This parking lot also accesses the launch point for people floating the river in summer.)
