Description
From the Meadow or Lazy V parking areas, get on the
Staunton Ranch Trail, connect to the
Border Line Trail or Bugling Elk, then North Elk Creek #764 which traverses north to another intersection with Rusty Buckle #769. If traveling counter-clockwise, continue east back to an upper junction with Border Line. The counter-clockwise direction climbs over well-positioned rock steps and through shallow switchbacks eventually topping out at 9,500' with awesome views to the south and west. Note that using a clock-wise direction is also a good alternative.
From the upper Border Line junction, it is possible to ascend east towards the
Mason Creek Trail or
Bear Paw Trail, or to descend west back towards
Marmot Passage Trail,
Chimney Rock Trail, or
West Meadow Trail for longer loop options before returning to the parking areas.
