Overview
Fun 11-mile trail around Elk City Lake. Tons of great riding and scenery from woods to lake to red rock canyons.
Need to Know
Parking and restrooms at Garage Bicycle Works at the north side of the lake. Restrooms and camping / picnic areas at Elk City Lake Park on the east side of the lake, north of the dam.
Description
Starting on the north side of lake near the bike shop; a tight, technical woods section featuring climbs, drops, and bridge crossings gets you warmed up to make the trip around Elk City Lake. This section is for everyone from children to experts.
From there, you'll head into red canyons and ridges leading up to the park and dam. After crossing the Dam on Dirt trail, you'll have the opportunity to ride or bypass The Pits. This gnarly section features fast, rocky, downhill sections, steep climbs, and hairpin turns as well as a wooded creek trail section and several wooden bridge sections.
After leaving The Pits, the trail winds around the lake through fast, cross country style trails with a few canyon crossings added in, eventually leading you back to the woods trails leading back to the bike shop.
History & Background
Elk City Lake trails were created and are maintained by the local club Western Oklahoma Pedalers since the early 90's.
