Features Views

Family Friendly A mostly flat, limerock road; you can stop anywhere and observe nature in the wildlife refuge.

Need to Know

Traffic on this limerock through-road, though infrequent, can make it a dusty ride at times. Plenty of parking is near the hunter check-station at the north end of the Dixie Mainline or near the volunteer fire station at the south end.

Description

This limerock road through the Lower Suwannee Wildlife Refuge is bordered by the fence of a private hunting preserve at the south end. There is a marked restored pine forest on the left which is interesting to compare to the surrounding dense un-restored areas. There is swamp on both sides of the road just north of the fenced preserve with characteristic cypress trees and cabbage palms. Further north the road crosses five branches of two tidal creeks, fiddler crabs are typically seen in this area.
