Overview
Nothing technical and fairly flat route with a couple little uphill kicks between the 5 and 6 mile marks.
Description
This is a good 10-mile loop that is a nice option for beginners—there's nothing technical, it's fairly flat and there are no boulders but some areas have sand or loose gravel.
You'll need to have some basic fitness as the first half is a very gradual uphill. The
Shallmo Wash section starts out with a gradual uphill and some tight switchbacks. About one mile in, there is a section that looks like someone carved the trail into the side of a sand dune.
After that it's pretty flat and smooth until you get to
Granite Trail. Between the 5 and 6 mile marks there are a couple little uphill kicks. Once you get past this, it's all down hill to the finish.
On the
Granite trail section look to your right. If you time it right (top of the hour) you should be able to see the fountain going off over in Fountain Hills). Have a blast picking up speed over the final 4 miles.
