Description

The CAP map of the trail is here:
knowyourwaternews.com/wp-co…

Starting at Cave Creek Road, the trail follows the south bank of the CAP Canal to the east. The trail is wide and smooth, very well groomed. It is outside the fenced off canal bank service road. Across the canal, hidden behind the high bank is the Reach 11 Recreation Area. with easy trails of its own.

The trail passes under the 101 freeway and then the 51 freeway. On the east side of the 51 is a narrow trail up to an overpass trail that can connect to Reach 11. Eventually, the trail comes out at Tatum Blvd. Caution is needed crossing the busy road. After another mile, the trail crosses 56th St.

Eventually, the trail approaches Bell Rd (later becoming Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd.) and the trail continues wedged between the busy road and the canal fence. Next to the 6-lane road, it is rather noisy. The trail crosses the busy intersections at Scottsdale Rd and Hayden Rd. before ending at the 101 Freeway (formerly Pima Rd.).
