This is a lesser-used short trail connecting the Hawknest Trail to the Upper Ranch Trail. There is not a lot of elevation change or any real difficulties. However, the trail crosses a vein of basalt in the normally decomposed granite preserve and is a little bumpier than some of the trails.

It can be part of any of dozens of loop options in the Brown's Ranch area (McDowell Sonoran Preserve). The attached track includes the short side trip to Basalt Ridge Overlook on the opposite side of the Hawknest Trail.
