Overview

This is the most popular loop in the Mills River area. Compared to other trails in Pisgah, it is friendlier to riders who lean on the intermediate side. The downhill segments are not that steep, so slower riders can take their time, while more advanced riders can build up some significant speed.

Need to Know

You can park at the "Trace Ridge TrailHead" or "Wash Creek Road Parking" - both are listed on Google Maps. Note that you'll have to drive a few minutes on forest service road, but its manageable even in a low clearance vehicle.

Description

You'll begin the ride by climbing Wash Creek Road (FR 5000), followed by a bit of singletrack climbing on Upper Spencer Gap. Once you reach the next intersection, you'll enjoy an incredible downhill on Upper Spencer Branch. You'll then climb just a little bit more on some doubletrack on Fletcher Creek Road before enjoying another amazing downhill down Upper Fletcher Creek. Be prepared for two creek crossings that are both rideable.

The last segment will be a little bit of singletrack climbing and another downhill on Lower Fletcher Creek.

You'll be spit out onto a Forest Service road that brings you back to the car.
