This is a good option for beginning riders to see some of Mt Tam without having to climb too much or worry about technical descents.

A good option when you have a couple of beginners in your group who want to see Mt Tam, but don't want to climb from Mill Valley to get there. This route also avoids descending on difficult terrain but requires you to ride the road for the return portion.

Start at Mountain Home Inn and park on the side of the road. Head up Gravity Car Road for a mile to the double bow knot of Old Railroad Grade Trail. Follow RR up to West Point Inn.

At West Point Inn, head down Old Stage Road - probably the easiest descent on Tam, then ride Hwy 1 back to the Mountain Home Inn. Note - if you feel like some more climbing you can keep going up RR grade to the top of Tam and then ride back down to take Old Stage on the return
