Overview
Fightingtown Creek Nature Preserve features three loops with easy climbing, considering the location in the North Georgia Mountains. The trails ride fast with bermed hairpin turns and (in the counterclockwise Sa-Tu-Th) direction only one small, sustained climb followed by a long downhill interrupted by only short climbs.
The trails are nestled in a hardwood forest with one small creek crossing with some narrow singletrack down by the namesake Fightingtown Creek.
Need to Know
Trails are directional. The Sa-Tu-Th direction is shown.
Description
The ride starts on
Lower Prince Loop with the long climb of the day at 200 feet. Continue onto
Upper Prince Loop at the intersection to add some easy distance on the sides of Prince Mountain. From the top, it's about a mile and a half, mostly downhill back to the parking lot as you weave through the forest between the trees. A couple of bermed switchbacks add to the adventure.
Back at the parking lot head out next on the Laurel Loop - look for the "Danger Mouse" sign at the entrance. This trail is similar to the Prince Loops with awesome flowy singletrack. Soon enough you're back at the parking lot again.
At the far end of the parking lot you'll find the entrance for the final loop,
Creek Loop. This is probably the most difficult of the three trails in the system but it's not difficult. Your descent continues down to Fightingtown Creek interrupted only by the occasional short climb or switchback. Then a short section of singletrack follows the creek before you head back for the return "climb". Just before the climb you'll splash through a tributary creek and then it's only a 100 ft climb back to the parking area.
