Description

If you're in Corte Madera and you want to ride the trails around Mill Valley or the Marin Headlands, there's a big hill the way: Camino Alto. This is ok for mountain bikers; we can go up Chapman Dr and down Bob Middagh Trail or Escalon Fire Road / Val Vista Trail. But sometimes a more direct route would be nice. Or maybe your ride started in Mill Valley, you went up Old Railroad Grade and down Eldridge Grade or Rock Springs Lagunitas Fire Road, and you just wish you could finish the loop faster.

For cyclists who don't like to climb, the way around is Meadowsweet Dr / Horse Hill Path / Lomita Dr. It's longer, has enough uphill to discourage very casual riders, and the car-free section is next to highway 101 (wind usually blows the exhaust away, but not always).

This north approach is a very flat trail that starts as a paved path and becomes a dirt path, eventually dead-ending at the closed tunnel. But it doesn't have to be this way - we can Open Alto Tunnel! Hopefully this will connect to the Mill Valley/Sausalito Path someday.
