Overview
Just north of Heber City off Hwy 40, Jordanelle Ridge Trail System (aka Riverview or Coyote Trails) provides an excellent network for riders of all abilities, with new additions further broadening what's available like a skills course and more downhill-oriented riding.
Description
The west-side trails of Jordanelle offer numerous loop options. Most trails switchback up the hillsides and then follow the contours before heading back down, it's just a matter of how much elevation and distance you're after.
This loop is nearly 10 miles and over 1,200 feet of elevation gain, which is a solid tour for most riders. It begins at the UVU trailhead and follows a connector and access trail to the first half of the main climb on
College Connector (aka
River Connector). Continue up past the crossing
Middle Earth trail sections before taking a right onto
Upper Riverview.
This flat section heads east for a short break in the climbing until you come to the base of
Chop'd Coyote. Hang left and head north, settling into the steady back-and-forth climb. This is where the downhill fun is earned.
Just shy of the midway point on this ride, you'll continue onto the
Lonely Mountain Traverse and top out at close to 7,000' in elevation. This is a good time to put a foot down if you haven't already, catch your breath, and prepare for a hoot of a downhill.
Quickly heading downhill, follow the
Lonely Mountain Traverse, staying right onto
Lonely Mountain around 5.6 miles. At the intersection with
Upper Riverview (aka Rivendell), turn left (east) for a quick climb and flat cruise along the hillside to link back up with
College Connector, which you climbed earlier.
For those wanting more, this is your change to do it all again. This route, as mapped, turns right to head back down
College Connector, this time enjoying the fruits of your labor (be wary of other riders on their way up).
