Description

This section of the Arizona Trail has some great wooded areas to traverse through. Starting at Sycamore Creek near Hwy 87, the trail travels north. The first 5 miles cover a lot of fence crossings with the well known AZT gates at each. The trail mountain bike bypass separates from the Arizona Trail shortly after going under the large power lines to get on Sycamore Creek Rd around the 5-mile mark.

You'll get on the AZT bike bypass. After 3 miles, turn left onto Old Bee Line Hwy. The road soon turns into a serious 4x4 only road climbing into a narrow canyon with a few old mines along the way. In places the canyon is only 100 ft wide but several 100 ft deep. A few old mines can be see along the trail. The section resumes the wooded groves when it exits the canyon. It ends at a connection trail to the trail that goes through the wilderness area.

The bypass route does get updated as trails change. Check the AZTrail.org for the most recent updates.
