Description

Starting where the AZT crosses Hwy 60 the route goes separates from the official AZT after 1 mile to head west on E Hewitt Station Rd. After 1 more mile turns right on OHV roads for 7 miles. These are fast flowing doubletrack roads with little traffic. Turn left onto Hewitt Canyon Rd then right on E Hewitt Station Rd. Soon you'll see small glimpses of Whitlow Ranch Reservoir on your right.

Turn right on the pavement of N Valley Queen Rd following it to Queen Valley. Queen Valley has some limited resupply options if needed. Exit town on E Silver King Rd. Outside of town you'll exit right onto the OHV trails. Follow these for 10 miles until you come into some rewarding singletrack in the Gold Canyon Trail System. Exiting the trail system you'll return to pavement through Gold Canyon. There is some intermittent dirt track along the way until the Broadway Trail. Singletrack returns with a punishing force that will challenge your ability going uphill through loose boulders until the trail levels out. Here it skirts the mountain and flows well to the road crossing near Dutchman State Park.

You resume OHV roads for the next 15 miles with a few miles of singletrack along the way. Gradually descending the last 10 miles is rewarding with a few punchy climbs along the way.

The bypass route does get updated as trails change. Check the AZTrail.org for the most recent updates.
