Overview
This ride involves plenty of climbing and earning your turns on primitive trails. It's solid 'Type 2' fun with amazing views off the ridge line.
Trail can be ridden both directions but is generally considered better clockwise. The descent down
Hop Canyon Trail #25 is the fun you're after, but you've got to get to the top first!
Need to Know
There are two gates on the trail. The second is towards the bottom and can catch you out if you're not looking ahead.
Description
You start out up
Trail #25A heading north. This is a steep trail that will challenge your lungs and legs but is not particularly technical. You can consider starting a bit earlier on the forest road for a warm up. For most riders,
Trail #25A will be a hike-a-bike. If you're fit, you might ride 75% of it.
At the top of
Trail #25A you meet
North Baldy Trail #8 and have some amazing views on the ridge line.
North Baldy Trail #8 follows the ridgeline towards South Baldy Peak. It is technical in spots and the climbs are quite punchy. Some hiking should be expected.
The ride down
Hop Canyon Trail #25 is the fun part. It is sweepy and technical but not too steep. The trail is relatively easy to follow with a good tread. It's loose and raw, but fun and scenic if you're comfortable with the bike moving around underneath you.
