Wide singletrack makes passing oncoming traffic easy. The trail system is within walking distance to a new neighborhood.
Description
This multiuse, bidirectional loop is easiest when rode in the clockwise direction as there is a steep (but short) 17 percent climb at 1 mile if going counter clockwise. There is only a short 9 percent grade in the clockwise direction. There is a lot of flow, sprinkled with some light tech. No roots, but you get a mix of sand, hard pack, and rocks here and there.
The Tennessee
River Gorge Trust's website states the following about this trail system:
"The Tennessee
River Gorge Trust (TRGT) is thrilled to announce the addition of a new mountain biking trail system in the Tennessee
River Gorge to help continue making Chattanooga the best outdoor town around! This project has been made possible by a generous land donation from Black Creek and funding from the Lyndhurst Foundation,
Tower Community Bank, Chattanooga Tourism Co, Rock Creek, International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA), RH Aviation, and Fox Factory. The first phase of the Aetna Mountain Trails will open in the fall of 2023 and offer roughly 4 miles of trail. Upon completion, the trail system will ultimately offer 10+ miles of high-quality singletrack trails atop Aetna Mountain for mountain bikers, hikers, and trail runners. "
