All trails and roads south of the Powerline Road (Road #3550) at Hartman Rocks are closed until May 15th to protect Sage-grouse lekking.

Overview

Best ridden clockwise, this Hartman loop is typical for the area and has a more XC feel, but doesn't see the same crowds as the north side of the rec area. This tour of the southeast trails will give you plenty of practice climbing up the slabby granite that's peppered along the route as well as some downhill flow all with the backdrop of the seas of sage.

Outback, Dave Moe's and Dirty Sock contain the most technically challenging sections of uphill, but any difficulties are short-lived, easily walkable, and are usually followed by a rewarding descent.

Need to Know

There are no restrooms at the trailhead.

Description

Described clockwise:

Bambi's - Winding singletrack through rock formations and sagebrush. Shortly after starting out there are some fun rock features that provide an uphill technical challenge for the intermediate advanced rider. Take note of these cool formations because you'll be coming back down them at the end of the loop. After .9 miles take a left at the junction and cross a small cattleguard to head down Road 3580 (Road 32B) to the start of Nine-0.

Nine-0 - After a small initial climb, prepare for a fast and fun descent along a trail that gets a little sandy at the bottom . Once you hit Road 3575, take a left and follow the road for about a half mile until you reach the entrance to Outback on the left.

Outback - The trail starts out doubletrack, but quickly turns to singletrack and contains rolling ups and downs with multiple fun technical uphill challenges balanced with some equally enjoyable descents. You'll cross a doubletrack road to the start of Enchanted Forest, which is right next to a large power pole.

Enchanted Forest - Start downhill on a fast trail containing many whoops until you reach a gate on the left that may be open or closed. Go through the gate and take another left to continue on singletrack descending into a fun forested section before climbing out of the drainage onto dirt Road 3555. Head north on Road 3555 to the start of Dave Moe's.

Dave Moe's - Fun and fast singletrack that contains more whoops and a couple rock gardens. Take a right when you intersect dirt Road 3560 and climb a short ways to the entrance of Dirty Sock.

Dirty Sock- More semi-technical climbing around beautiful rock formations and small juniper trees. Descend down to the intersection with Buddy Bear and take a right to climb up easy singletrack.

Buddy Bear- Easy singletrack through the endless sage that crosses a cattle guard at the end before turning into Luge connector.

Luge connector- More easy singletrack, climbing through the sage.

Broken Shovel- Easy climbing on singletrack to the start of Sky Line.

Sky Line - This trail is mostly mellow, intermediate singletrack climbing with one main rock garden. Take a right once Sky Line ends on the dirt road, cross the cattle guard and continue west on the dirt road until you hit Bambi's trail.

Bambi's Loop. - A mellow climb at the top of Bambi's and then you get to descend the initial section you first climbed up. Enjoy this fun ride back to the car armed with some prior knowledge of the trail.
